2019 Standard Chartered Great City Race runners raise more than £66K for Futuremakers
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2019 Standard Chartered Great City Race on Tuesday 16 July. Your participation helped to raise more than £66K for Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, a charitable initiative that sets out to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people in the communities in which the Bank operates. Standard Chartered will match the funds raised from this event.
Social and economic inequality significantly affects disadvantaged young people, many of whom are unable to access the skills and opportunities needed to close the income gap. Globally, more than 200 million young people are either unemployed or, despite having jobs, continue to live in poverty due to low income.
Money raised through this year’s event will enable Futuremakers to support young people from underserved communities, especially girls and people with visual impairments, across Standard Chartered’s markets. It will enable these young people to take part in community programmes that help them to learn new skills and improve their chances of getting a job or starting their own business.
Learning economic skills through sport
One of those programmes is Futuremakers’ flagship education programme, Goal, which utilises sport and play-based learning to equip adolescent girls with the confidence, knowledge and capabilities they need to be economic leaders in their schools, families and communities. In September 2019, Standard Chartered expanded Goal to the UK and launched in six schools across London and Liverpool. Thanks to events like the Standard Chartered Great City Race, support can be provided to an additional 180 girls throughout the programme’s first year in the UK.

£10 from each entry to the Standard Chartered Great City Race 2019 will be donated to Futuremakers by Standard Chartered and will support project implementation work of Women Win, a registered charity in the Netherlands under the name “Stitching Women Win, KvK 34267612.”
