Medical advice
Taking part in events such as the GetPRO Bath Half is beneficial for your health.
However, participants also need to take responsibility for their own wellbeing by equipping themselves with the right information about things such as training, eating and drinking.
The following simple advice on how to look after your body in the last few weeks before Event Day, and on the day itself, will help you to be a picture of health as you cross the Finish Line.
Here's what you need to know
If you feel unwell on Event Day or 48 hours before
Please consider whether taking part is the right thing to do. Running with a fever, cough or cold symptoms etc, can significantly increase your chance of not completing the 13.1 miles or needing medical assistance during the event.
If you are unsure on the day
Please seek advice on site by speaking to our friendly, knowledgeable medical team. Equally, don’t run if you are recovering from an injury – it's important to take time to build yourself back up.
If you have a significant medical condition
Please get in touch in advance. There will be a medical fridge on site should you have medications you need to bring with you in case of emergency. If you have underlying health conditions, please consult your own doctor with regards to doing a half marathon.
Be prepared for the weather on Event Day
Bath sometimes appears to have its own microclimate! We have seen everything from snow to bright sunshine to rain on Event Day, so be prepared for the weather on the day and make sure you bring appropriate clothing. Please remember to bring sunscreen if warm weather is forecast.
Don’t overload on water and gels
There will be water stations positioned around the course, so please ensure you take on sensible amounts of fluid and bring some of your favourite snacks and/or gels to keep your energy levels up. Don’t overload on water and gels, though, as that too can cause problems. It is also essential to warm up before the event.
Complete your medical information and next of kin details
Ensure you complete the medical information and next of kin details on the reverse of your bib number. Should you become unwell, these details will enable us to provide the correct medical treatment and rapidly update your next of kin on how you’re feeling and where you are.
Be mindful during the event
During the event, please be mindful that you will be running through a city. If you are running with music, consider using just one earphone to ensure you can hear what’s going on around you, including any instructions from our marshals.
If you feel unwell or injure yourself on the course
If you feel unwell or injure yourself on the course – please stop! Speak to a marshal, go to the nearest first aid point, approach an ambulance or speak to any member of the medical team. Don’t ignore symptoms such as chest pains and severe shortness of breath.
