The 2025 TCS London Marathon will play host to a total of 87 Guinness World Records™ attempts on Sunday 27 April – the 45th edition of the event.
This will be the 18th consecutive year that Guinness World Records has collaborated with the London Marathon to provide on-the-day Finish Line record verification for those looking to break a world record. A total of 103 participants will attempt 87 record titles on Marathon Day.
A team of Official Adjudicators will be on hand at the Start and Finish of the TCS London Marathon to check costumes, verify times and confirm successful participants as official Guinness World Records title holders, earning them a place in the Guinness World Records annual.
In addition to the individual attempts, the TCS London Marathon is aiming to break the record for the most participants in a marathon, with an estimated 56,000 people set to take part at the end of the month. The current record of 55,646 was set by the TCS New York City Marathon last November.
The 2025 TCS London Marathon is already the most popular marathon on the planet, thanks to an astonishing 840,318 people who applied to take part via the public ballot, and it is also the world’s largest annual one-day fundraising event with more than £1.3 billion raised for charity since 1981.
Below is a selection of the people attempting Guinness World Records at this year’s TCS London Marathon.
Fastest aggregate time to complete all Abbott World Marathon Majors races with a stoma (female)
Time to beat: 24 hours
Adele Roberts, 46, broadcaster and DJ from Southport, Merseyside. She lives in London with her girlfriend of 21 years. This year’s TCS London Marathon will be Adele’s ninth marathon. She has completed the London Marathon three times prior to this record attempt, with her most recent one being in 2024, when she set a Guinness World Records title for the fastest marathon with a stoma (female). This year she is raising money for Cancer Research UK and Attitude Magazine Foundation to raise awareness of bowel cancer and living with a stoma. She also wants to show people what can be achieved after cancer and increase representation of ostomates.
Fastest marathon in a two-person costume (female)

Chris Buckle, a 47-year-old mum of three, works for the local council supporting vulnerable families. Emma Moreton, 44 and a mum of two daughters, works as a freelance copywriter in e-commerce, and volunteers on the core team for two parkrun events. The pair run together weekly, including their local parkrun. This will be their 12th marathon, and they have decided to take part together in a two-person dog costume to add an extra challenge. Emma and Chris are fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Fastest marathon dressed as a body part (male)
Time to beat: 3 hours 43 minutes
Alex Paget, 30, is an insurance analyst living in Clapham, London. Alex suffered from Post Concussion Syndrome following a concussion during Ironman Vichy 2021. This TCS London Marathon will be a milestone for Alex to prove that, despite all he’s been through due to his injury, he can still do what he loves. Alex was supported through his long recovery by the charity Headway – the brain injury association. The charity helps to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services. He will be taking part in a brain costume to raise funds and awareness for Headway and hopes his record attempt will spread the word about the charity.
Fastest marathon run by mother and daughter (IS1)
Time to beat: 9 hours 57 minutes 2 seconds
Lucette and Katie Crowhurst, Lucette (51) and Katie (21) are a mother and daughter duo from Maidenhead. They currently hold the record they are trying to beat in this marathon, after setting the record on their London Marathon debuts last year. They are running for the charities Meadow House Hospice and Guide Dogs for the Blind. Lucette is supported by a guide runner, Peter Flewitt, and has been the owner of three guide dogs over the years. Lucette and Katie are looking forward to sharing another special achievement as mother and daughter.
Fastest marathon in a four-person costume
Time to beat: 4 hours 3 minutes 18 seconds
Alexander Knox, Jasper Wolley, Ben Littlejohns and Jim Baillie are all very keen marathon runners from Exeter. They thought this record attempt would be a fun and fulfilling challenge they could look back on together. They are fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer, after Alexander was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2013 and lung cancer in 2014. Young Lives vs Cancer supported him throughout his treatment, and now that he’s 10 years cancer-free, he aims to raise awareness for the organisation that supported him and his family. They chose a Scooby Doo mystery machine costume because it’s recognisable and fun.
Fastest marathon by a mascot (female)
Time to beat: 3 hours 58 minutes 57 seconds
Zoe, 43, from Walton-on-Thames, is a women’s fitness specialist and a management consultant, as well as mother to two boys. She has run six marathons, with her personal best being 2:54:00. This is her first marathon in costume and she is running to raise the profile of The Dear Toby Trust, a small charity created by Zoe’s friends in honour of their son Toby’s battle with childhood cancer. The charity funds research into kinder and more effective treatments for childhood cancer.
Zoe took up long distance running to support the charity and believes Toby would have laughed seeing her take part dressed as Bernie the Lion, the charity’s mascot.
Fastest marathon on crutches (male)
Time to beat: 6 hours 11 minutes 11 seconds
David Wetherill, 35, is a project manager and four-time Paralympian. He lives in Plymouth, where he started his table tennis career. He represented Team GB at three Paralympic Games and retired in 2021 due to hip problems associated with his congenital disability (multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, a condition he has lived with since birth).
Although David unofficially broke the record last year in Barcelona, he aims to achieve an even better time and break a world record during the 2025 TCS London Marathon. With his attempt, David wants to show the world that anything is possible. He is running for Breakthrough T1D as part of a team, as they share the dream to one day find a cure for type one diabetes.
Fastest marathon in a firefighter's uniform and breathing apparatus (SCBA) (male)
Time to beat: 4 hours 42 minutes 5 seconds
Stephen, 54, has served as a firefighter in London for 23 years. He lives in Buckinghamshire, with his wife Donna and their four children. Two years ago, while running the TCS London Marathon, Stephen saw a fellow fireman running with a full fire kit and thought he could do the same.
He is running this year’s TCS London Marathon for the Firefighters Charity, to raise awareness for the organisation that has supported him, his family and many others for more than 80 years. Stephen has been training and sorting out the logistics of the breathing apparatus, which he will change every two miles (roughly 3.21868 km) during the marathon.
