Additionally, 41 Guinness World Records titles were broken from 87 attempts including Angus Leckonby: Fastest marathon (male) (II1) in a time of 3:36:38 and Zoe Cowell-Jones: Fastest marathon by a mascot (female) in a time of 3:19:18.
The 2025 TCS London Marathon is already the most popular marathon on the planet, achieving the title for the most ballot entries for a marathon event thanks to an astonishing 840,318 people who applied via the public ballot for the 2025 edition, and it is also the world’s largest annual one-day fundraising event with more than £1.3 billion raised for charity since 1981. In October 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the event also achieved the record title for the most users to run a remote marathon in 24 hours with 37,966 participants.
Mark McKinley, Director of Central Records Services at Guinness World Records said: “It’s amazing to see the growth of the TCS London Marathon over the last 45 events and this record marks the 18th consecutive year of our partnership, a collaboration that continues to offer runners the opportunity to add an extra challenge to their training. Congratulations to all the runners that took part, you are Officially Amazing!”
Hugh Brasher, the CEO of London Marathon Events, the organisers of the TCS London Marathon, said: “We are thrilled to have broken the Guinness World Records title for the largest number of finishers in a marathon at yesterday’s TCS London Marathon. It was a fantastic occasion to see 56,640 people cross the iconic Finish Line on The Mall throughout Marathon Day. We are delighted to have partnered with Guinness World Records once again to celebrate our 45th edition and we hope the thousands of people watching the TCS London Marathon yesterday were inspired to register in the 2026 TCS London Marathon Ballot.
