Riding in Stephen’s memory

Following the passing of Stephen Rickaby, his friend Paul Nicholson takes on the RideLondon-Essex 100 for charity

Stephen Rickaby died in February 2022 after being diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) just nine months earlier. He was 46.

Leaving behind wife Anne and sons Seb (15) and Hugo (8), Stephen’s untimely death has left a huge void in the lives of his family and friends.

Throughout Stephen’s illness, the Rickaby family was supported by local charity Bright Red. Based in the North East, not far from where the family live in County Durham, Bright Red is dedicated to supporting individuals who face a blood cancer diagnosis and their families.

In the few months since Stephen passed away, his friends have rallied behind Anne and her sons – with a group of them deciding to take on RideLondon-Essex 100 in Stephen’s memory and to support Bright Red, which will use the money raised to continue funding research into blood cancers and to provide end-of-life care and support for other families.

In the video below, Anne tells us about Stephen and his friend Paul Nicholson shares why he is taking part in this year’s RideLondon-Essex 100.
